Since starting at Kojen English, I have begun a number of
routines to improve my English fluency. One of those routines
includes reciting the dialogs from the Direct English
CD during the morning as I prepare for work.
Reciting is crucial for improving English speaking ability.
For example, children acquire their native speaking skills
by mimicking their parents. Children repeatedly copy
and recite their parents vocabulary, speed, pronunciation,
mannerisms and tones.
Mimicking is not only done by the children in Taiwan,
but in every culture, including America. As we age and become
professionals in our careers, learning a language appears
difficult, especially when it comes to finding free time.
To compete with native English speakers in America, reciting
the dialog from from the course material is very helpful when
listening to the dialog on a MP3 or in Kojen's classroom.
One of the classes is a Multimedia computer lab where teachers
assist with pronouncing and intonation. The teachers will help
record myself reciting the dialogs, I listen to my recording
and compare myself to a model.
This class and listening to CDs at home helps me catch up
with native speakers, by repeating as they did when they were
children. This is a natural way. And this allows me to utilize any
free time I have to practicing English during my busy schedule.
Kojen really fits my schedule as I have to study for the
GRE during my breakfast and commute, while I study English during
my preparation time for work. Repeatedly following the English
dialogs without forcing memorization causes me less stress and
acts as a kind of reflection.
Apart from repeating the exercises at home, Kojen's Multimedia
class plays a substantial role in assimilating a foreign language to
me through the assistance of teachers. As a result,
I am more familiar with thinking 'in' and speaking
'in' English.
